GreenStream, the leading Nordic expert in managing the carbon finance cycle of greenhouse gas emissions reduction projects, provides services for the generation and capitalisation of carbon credits under the Kyoto Protocol to one of the world’s biggest solar photovoltaic power projects, the Ohotnikovo Power Station developed by Activ Solar.

Austrian Activ Solar pioneered the development of solar PV in Ukraine with the 7.5 MW Rodikovoye Power Station located on the energy deficient Crimean Peninsula. The company has also constructed 60MW of the 80MW Ohotnikovo Power Station which will be the CIS regions’ and one of the world’s largest solar PV installations. Activ Solar reports a strong pipeline and further large-scale projects to be revealed later this year.
The Solar plants are part of Ukraine’s national Natural Energy project, which the State Agency of Ukraine for Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation (SAUEEEC) launched in 2010. The project is targeting a total solar power plant capacity of 2,000 MW and to produce 30% of the country’s energy from renewable resources by 2015.

Dr. Jussi Nykänen, Chairman of the Board of GreenStream Network Plc declares: “Clean energy plays an integral part in ameliorating the effects of climate change. We are proud to contribute to the ambitious Ukrainian renewable energy program with our specialized know-how in carbon financing. In order to understand the significance of this project and the headway that Ukraine has achieved so far, the solar installations in Crimea are reducing significant amounts of carbon dioxide emissions, and the value of the emission reductions represent a considerable contribution to financing the project.” Dr. Nykänen further adds: “Our large Joint Implementation project portfolio has given us exceptional experience in clean energy project finance alongside our expanding activities in China, where we already have contracted carbon credits from more than 50 projects.”
